How does it work?

VMTurbo’s patented technology manages the virtualized IT stack as a supply chain.

In a traditional supply chain, there are groups of buyers and sellers at each link of the chain, buying and selling commodities (resources). Over time, these transactions between buyers and sellers drive a market (equilibrium) price for each commodity.

Virtual machines sit at the top of the VMTurbo supply chain. Virtual machines have a budget (virtual money) to buy computing resources from the physical machines (i.e. hypervisors). Physical machines purchase datacenter resources like power, cooling, and floor space, and produce compute resources (CPU, memory, I/O bandwidth) to sell to the virtual machines.

Just as in a traditional supply chain, VMTurbo’s patented algorithms trend towards an equilibrium. This equilibrium balances the supply of datacenter resources with the demand from the business. To reach this equilibrium, VMTurbo’s virtual appliance recommends a series of virtual machine reconfigurations (rightsizing), migrations, suspend/resume operations as well as storage consolidations and physical machine power on/power off. These operations can then be performed by the administrator, or completely automatically.
